Mercedes-Benz To Introduce Attention Assist Into Series Production In Spring 2009 |

Its been nearly three years since we first told you about a new warning
system being developed by Mercedes aimed at combating driver fatigue and
the occurrence of falling asleep behind the wheel. Today, the company has
announced the technology - officially titled "Attention Assist" - is ready
for series production, with the system set to debut on Mercedes models
starting in spring 2009. If you missed our prior coverage of Attention
Assist, here again is a quick summary of how the system operates. To
begin, Attention Assist works by first observing a drivers behaviors, and
then using this information to create a unique driver profile. During
operation, a series of tests continually monitor driver input in relation
to this profile, and in the event a deviation is encountered, the system
then determines whether or not the deviation is a result of fatigue. If it
is, Attention Assist alerts the driver both visually and audibly that its
